Medallion for Woodsmoke XXXVIII

The medallion for the 38th Woodsmoke Rendezvous is a beaver, the fur-bearing animal that opened Canada and the western United States to trappers and the mountain men.  Beaver pelts were so valued that they were once used as a unit of currency. The North American beaver population was almost wiped out by 1930, but conservation measures have since restored their numbers to relatively healthy numbers.
